San Diego Highlights

Well, we're back. San Diego was SO much fun! The first day we were there Cameron and I went to Pacific Beach. He went boogie boarding while I sat on the beach and took pictures. It was tons of fun and perfect weather.
On Thursday we went to Legoland with Jeff and his family. It is more for little kids but seeing all the things made out of legos was AMAZING! I am still in awe of all the things they made (check out my photobucket page to see ALL the pictures). On Friday we went to Sea World. The Dolphin Show was really really cool and the Shamu show was okay. I think if we had seen Shamu first we would have been more impressed, but I think the dolphins were cooler. It really is neat though that they can train those huge animals to do things. After Sea World we went to the wedding dinner and we totally got lost! I thought we would NEVER find the restaurant. But alas, we found it and we were even on time!
Saturday was the wedding and it was beautiful! The San Diego Temple is so beautiful! I wanted to spend all day there. The reception was in someone's yard and it was SO nice, except that it was so extremely hot, and we totally got lost getting there too! It was way out in the middle of nowhere and the directions we had were so confusing. We ended up showing up about 45 minutes late, lol, but it's okay because they weren't taking pictures or anything.

All in all it was a wonderful trip and I can't wait to go back someday!

I just have to share this last picture. I am so proud of it! This is of my niece Rylee and Ruth's little sister. They became instant best friends and were SO cute together!

San Diego, here we come!

This week is going to be wonderful! We originally thought Cameron had a final on Thursday so we weren't going to be able to go to Jared's wedding and San Diego until Friday and then we had to leave on Sunday. But now that he doesn't have a final, we get to go tomorrow!!! We are SO excited!!

CES Spring Workshop

On Friday my office had its annual CES Spring Workshop. What the means is that everyone in the Central Office that works for CES (the Church Educational System) and their spouses or “friend” get to spend the day going to workshops about CES or the gospel. It was amazing! There were three classes to go to and I just have to tell you about all the cool things I learned.

The first class we went to was sort of like a seminary class. We learned about finding and applying principles found in the scriptures. We learned that there are three basic ways or methods of “obtaining living water from the scriptural reservoir”. They are 1) Reading the scriptures from beginning to end. 2) Studying the scriptures by topic. And 3) Searching the scriptures for connections, patterns, and themes. (That was from one of Elder Bednar’s talks). Another way to read the scriptures that I had never really thought about is to see yourself in different roles as you read. For example, read the scriptures as if you were a parent teaching a child, or as a home/visiting teacher, or as a missionary. You will begin to see things in a different light when you do that. Our teacher shared a ton of wonderful quotes with us, but this one especially touched me. It is from Elder Haight:

“I promise you…that if you will follow that counsel to govern yourselves by correct principles – principles you learn at home, through the scriptures, modern-day prophets, and the Holy Ghost – your decisions will be made with confidence and ease. And though the fierce winds may be whipping the trees, your roots will be deeply entrenched in the ground.”

The second class we went to was about the new “Old Testament Visual Resource DVD” that the church is putting out. And it is SO cool! You know those seminary videos that you watch all the time. They have made 5 new videos that are from the second half of the Old Testament (since the old ones are all from the first half). They have put them on a new instructional DVD with the old ones, but they have it all split up into sections of the Old Testament. Each section has a video, a talk on it from an apostle, charts and graphs, paintings, music…I just can’t tell you how cool it is! They showed us bits and pieces of it. I can’t wait to see the whole thing. It has been 7 years in the making. It should be available for CES (ie: seminaries, institutes) by August. And here’s the really cool part, ANYONE can buy it after it has been out for a year for only $6. All the old Seminary videos you can’t buy, but this one you will be able to use with your own family. They are planning on doing the New Testament next, then The Book of Mormon, and then the Doctrine and Covenants. I wish I could explain to you just how amazing this video is going to be, just know that you will want your own copy when it comes available.

The last class we went to we learned about this cool thing on the internet called “Skype”. I had never heard of it before. It’s a program that you can download for free. Yes I said free. It’s a lot like instant messenger, but you can actually talk to people like you were on the phone with them or if you have a webcam you can have a video conference with them, and you can instant message them too. It’s amazing because if you have it and say you know someone that lives in England, if they have it and you are both online at the same time, you can talk to each other for free! It’s like making a long distance phone call for free. I think it is sooo cool. For just an audio conversation you can have up to 10 people, but for the video conferencing you can only have two people in on it. Anyway, if you know someone who is far away and you don’t get to talk to them much because it costs so much, try this out, it’s pretty amazing.

Well, now that I have written a novel, I’ll stop. But I just have to say again how much I love my job! How many people can say they have gospel discussions everyday at work? I am so blessed to be here and I have learned so much. I never want to leave, everyday is so uplifting.

Memory Grove Hike

This is a picture from mine and Cameron's most recent adventure. We hiked up a trail in Memory Grove Canyon that took us way up high and we could see the whole Salt Lake Valley and way beyond. It was amazing! Our friend Kendall was with us and we came to a sign that said "Re-Vegetation Area. Stay on Path. Do not go beyond this sign." But it was on a little hill so we went behind it and we were just looking at the view and on the back of the sign it said something about making sure you stay on the trail. So Cameron and Kendall read that thinking it meant we could go on that trail now. It was the steapest, scariest trail I have ever been on! And as we got farther down the mountain and into the trees, the trail got narrower and narrower. I was beginning to think we weren't going to find the end and that we would have to go back and climb up the mountain. We even came across two cars that either crashed there or someone pushed them off the cliff, but it was too steep for anyone to pull them out. Finally we came to the end and there was a bridge to go over the river, and we were on a REAL trail. What was supposed to be a 30-45 minute hike, turned into a couple hour 5 mile hike. But it was very pretty and it was nice to be outside in the fresh air.

entering the world of blogging...

I keep hearing the word "blog" and it seems to be the latest and greatest craze. So I guess I am going to follow everone else (even if I am a few years behind) and create my own blog.

For the past few months I have been wondering how I could keep my family and friends updated on my life. I know my family gets frustrated (for lack of a better word) with me because I never go into great detail of my life. I always give them one word answers like "good" or "fine" so maybe I will be more inclined to write more than one word about my life on here.

Although I feel tempted to just say "Life is good right now. Until next time... Jamie" But that would defeat the whole purpose of creating this. So here is how life is right now:

In the last few weeks since it has warmed up Cameron and I have been spending more time outdoors. It seems that every weekend we end up at Memory Grove Canyon hiking or walking around. I had never been there until a few weeks ago and it has quickly become one of my favorite places here. You can either walk/ride along a nice paved path (it goes about 10 miles, we havn't made it past 1 mile though) which goes along the river, or there are hiking/biking trails that go up in the mountains. It's so nice to be outside in the fresh air, especially when I am inside sitting at a desk all day. We have also been going on bike rides around the Avenues, although we don't go for long or far because my legs are SO weak! But I can definently tell I am getting more muscle in my legs. I told Cameron my goal by the end of the summer is to be able to ride to Jeff and Sarah's house...We'll see if that happens.

Cameron is busy finishing up his last few weeks of school. He is definently loving the Business Finance major a whole lot more than the Material Science and Engeneering major he started doing last semester. He is doing a great job in all his classes and I am so proud of him for working so hard.

I am loving my job! I really couldn't ask for a better place to work. I work for four guys and they have all been seminary teachers/principals, Bishops, Stake Presidents, Young Men's Leaders, etc. They are just SO nice. They remind me of my dad. I feel like I can't do anything wrong. I don't take criticism well and they are so kind to gently let me know if I have done something wrong and they understand that I am still learning. It's wonderful!

I love having Jeff and Sarah so close! Cameron and I go to their house for dinner and games atleast twice a month if not more. I love being able to see their kids so much, especially since we rarely got to see them when they were in Nebraska.

I'll sign off for now. But I am excited to be able to keep everyone updated on Cam's and mines lives!
